On Saturday, April 18, HBO will rebroadcast “The Final Inch”, an academy award-nominated documentary about polio in India . UNICEF India assisted with the making of the film.
The HBO web site provides the following summary: Nearly 50 years after a vaccine for polio was developed in the U.S. , the polio virus still finds refuge in some of the world's most vulnerable places. This 2008 Academy Award® nominee for Best Documentary Short Subject follows health workers into India's most impoverished neighborhoods for a look at the massive and highly personal mission that is under way to eradicate one of history's most feared diseases, now largely a disease of the world's poor.
UNICEF Executive Director Ann Veneman and Dr. Larry Brilliant, Chief Philanthropy Evangelist of google.org, recently attended a screening of the film on April 3rd and both spoke on a panel about how global polio eradication is within reach.
